Barron’s Loopring Scoop
Imagine if GameStop was a partner with Loopring.
— Jade (@realCRAQUELURE) January 7, 2022
Yesterday, we wrote about the Loopring GameStop rumors, and they don’t appear to be subsiding quite yet.
According to a report from legendary finance magazine Barron’s, GameStop explored an acquisition of Loopring. According to Barron’s complications arose from the layer-2s connection to China, “The person confirmed GameStop explored an acquisition, but said the retailer ultimately withdrew from talks amid logistical concerns related to Loopring’s operations in China.”
It is true that the Loopring team has connections to China. And SEC concerns are no joke for GameStop, considering all the accusations surrounding GME’s infamous run. Not to mention, the recent crackdown on Chinese stocks.
However, even if the report is true, it doesn’t preclude a partnership. As the article points out, GameStop explored an acquisition and ultimately decided against it, but did not say anything about Loopring’s China ties as eliminating it as a partner.
According to Barron’s, they attempted to reach a Loopring representative but were unable to by press time.

Matt Finestone, Head Of Blockchain
It’s worth mentioning that GameStop’s Head of Blockchain, Matt Finestone, is a former Loopring employee. And, it appears Finestone left on good terms.
“So what’s next. I am not leaving Loopring because I am tired of it, or because I am not interested in its future. I think you may see from my sappy message above, that is not the case. The fact is, an opportunity has presented itself that I am extremely excited about, and I feel I simply must take,” Finestone said via his Medium blog.
According to GMEDD.com, Matt Finestone initially stayed on as an advisor with Loopring after leaving for GameStop, but later left the position.
Interesting ETH Wallet Interactions
Interestingly, despite the potential issues with China and regulation, the official GameStop ether contract has interacted with almost exclusively Loopring on chain. Transactions have been sent between that address and exchanges in Loopring.

Nevertheless, these are still rumors. Wallet interactions don’t necessarily mean what we want them to mean. But its worth pointing out that at the very least the official GME prefers Loopring to others for saving on Ethereum gas fees.
