Puma Is Looking To Jump Into The Metaverse, Web3, and NFTS

Mainstream athletic retailer Puma is looking to dive headfirst into the metaverse, Web3, and NFTs.

In 2021, the metaverse captivated the attention of mainstream retailers and tech giants alike. Last October, Facebook’s name change announcement of its parent company to Meta marked two important developments. First, it sparked a frenzy of other major companies to highlight their own digital futures. And most importantly, it set in motion the beginning of mainstream recognition and adoption of the metaverse, and thus the crypto projects supporting the development of the space.

Today’s news shows just how strong the metaverse trend is growing right now. According to a LinkedIn job listing posted three days ago, Puma is looking to hire someone to become the temporary manager for the company’s “digital culture.” Candidates must have a strong understanding of NTS, the metaverse, and DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations).

  • Puma is one of the largest athletic retailers in the world, sitting behind the two top dogs in athletic apparel – Nike and Adidas.
  • It’s not the only athletic retailer looking for metaverse employees; Nike posted a job listing back in November in search of a virtual material designer to be part of the “team focusing on igniting the digital and virtual revolution at Nike.”
  • Nike also filed for several metaverse-related trademarks in November
  • Adidas also hopped on the metaverse bandwagon after announcing a strategic partnership with The Sandbox
  • NFTs have gone viral among US athletes – major sports stars like the Puma-sponsored Lamelo Ball, Stephen Curry, Michael Jordan, and more have all gotten involved with the blockchain in the past year.
  • At the beginning of December, Facebook opened up its Horizon Worlds metaverse to millions of users throughout the US and Canada, allowing for more users to better familiarize themselves with a digital-native environment.
