Crypto.com announced today via Twitter that they have partnered with NBA superstar — and one of the most famous people on the planet — Lebron James. The partnership will revolve around Crypto.com and the Lebron James Foundation providing access to blockchain technology education to high school students in Lebron’s hometown of Akron, Ohio.
- “Another incredible program for my community. Everyone deserves the same access. Everyone deserves the opportunity to call their own shot,” the Los Angeles Laker said via Twitter.
- Crypto.com added, “Together, we’re increasing educational and workforce development while delivering the tools and access that will empower the next generation to build a better and more inclusive future.”
- Akron has been hard hit economically in the past decade, including a faster rising poverty rate compared to other cities in Ohio.
- According to the Akron Beacon Journal the program, will “help Akron kids enrolled in the school and participating in his related programs — some 1,600 in all — to learn firsthand not only how cryptocurrency works, but the technology behind it and all the ways it will impact their lives and potential career paths in the future.”
- Crypto.com on the partnership: “Together, we’re increasing educational and workforce development while delivering the tools and access that will empower the next generation to build a better and more inclusive future.”
- Back in November, as part of a billion dollar marketing push, Crypto.com purchased the naming rights away from Staples for Lebron’s current home arena.
- Fellow NBA superstar Steph Curry has been in the crypto space for a while, however, he’s focused on the NFT side of things with Bored Ape Yacht Club and Decentraland.
