Normies Are Losing It Over The Latest Major Crypto Gaming Sponsorship

Despite countless mainstream gaming giants like Cloud9 setting their sights on the “scam” that is crypto, normies are having a much harder time seeing past the label.

Cloud9 Blockchain.com Partnership

Okay, I’ll admit, the ad is kind of corny. But the message speaks loud and clear: one of the largest e-sports teams in the world, Cloud9 (C9) is paying attention to crypto, and they want to educate the masses on the technology’s benefits as well.

Per the announcement from Blockchain.com’s Medium post, the crypto firm saw massive potential in the e-sports community as gaming natives understand the virtual economy better than anyone. Blockchain.com also reminds us that they’ve secured partnerships with other major global brands as well, like AT&T, Microsoft, and more.

As Cloud9’s first crypto sponsor, we will appear on their team’s jerseys alongside other global brands like AT&T, Microsoft, and BMW. Beyond that, we’ll become a major force behind the scenes in helping their audience adopt crypto and learn about its promise. To this end, we have financial literacy programming and special partner promotions planned on the horizon.”

Cloud9 Blockchain.com: Chaos In The Comment Section

Curiously enough, however, gaming natives may not actually feel so welcome to the idea of crypto as Blockchain.com describes. There seems to be a consensus among the gaming community that they want nothing to do with NFTs, digital ownership, or economic opportunity.

It’s a confusing wedge being formed here between the crypto and gaming communities. You would think that the two groups would harmoniously converge, as gamers realize they can now monetize all the time and energy they’ve devoted to centrally-owned gaming corporations, but that doesn’t seem to have registered just yet for gamers. All we can do is applaud Blockchain.com for even making the effort to educate.

As a refresher, Blockworks conveniently dropped off a list last week of everyone who has their eyes on the NFT and metaverse trend. Not to mention, GameStop said today that it’s launching a $100 million fund for NFT and crypto gaming development.

According to some C9 fans, however, the e-sports giant apparently hasn’t been reading the room.

We saw the same type of backlash to a crypto partnership happen when Ubisoft revealed in December 2021 that it would be partnering with Tezos (XTZ) to bring the first NFT collection to the company’s upcoming game.

However, Ubisoft sees the light at the end of the tunnel, and it does nothing to stop the company from pushing forward with its NFT endeavors. In fact, Ubisoft just announced another crypto partnership with Hedera Hashgrpah (HBAR) today.

Crypto is building the next foundational layer for the internet to merge humanity with virtual reality in a more immersive way that we can possibly comprehend. While monkey JPEGS selling for six or seven figures may put a bad taste in a gamer’s mouth, Blockchain.com is one of many crypto advocates showing up to help educate the masses to improve our digital economy.
