Litecoin Announces Release Of Mimblewimble; LTC Up A Whopping 2.5 Percent

Litecoin is in the news for the first time in a while thanks to its long-delayed Mimblewimble privacy upgrade’s upcoming deployment.

The Litecoin Foundation announced today that long-awaited privacy Mimblewimble upgrade will be instituted as part of the upcoming Litecoin Core 0.21.2 release. The upgrade has been in development since 2019.

  • “After years of hard work, we are finally ready to release MWEB. Both MWEB and Taproot are part of Litecoin Core v0.21.2. We will first do a release candidate v0.21.2rc1. Litecoin devs and I are currently building the binaries. We will release them when they are done,” Charlie Lee, the founder of Litecoin, said via Twitter. 
  • The upgrade comes as regulatory scrutiny over crypto appears to be gaining full steam ahead.
  • Litecoin partenered with Visa for a credit card back in November. The move made Litecoin essentially redeemable anywhere Visa is. This though is not to be confused with the fake news that Walmart had adopted Litecoin as a form of payment. 
  • LTC is up only 2.5% in the last 24 hours on the news. The copypasta of Bitcoin is currently trading in the $109 USD range.
  • On the yearly timeframe, LTC is down 16%. The BTC “alternative” opened February 2021 in the $130 range. On May 10th 2021, it hits all time high of $410 USD.
  • Dogecoin co-founder congratulated Litecoin — it merge mines with LTC — on the announcement.
