How To Choose The Best Hero In Defi Kingdoms

Figuring out what hero to buy in the popular new play-to-earn game DeFi Kingdoms can be daunting. Here, we will go through the basics of heroes and how to choose the best hero for you in the game.

  • Hero Professions And Rarity

DeFi Kingdoms ($JEWEL) is one of the most hyped-up new blockchain games. Although DeFi tools are made to be fun in this game (for our guide on how to get started, click here), like gardening and growing JEWEL, the heroes aspect adds a whole new adventure. Hero NFTs on DeFi Kingdoms are playable characters that you can level up and earn JEWEL with. Below, I will introduce you to the attributes of heroes, what heroes do, and how to choose the best one for you.

Hero Attributes

All hero attributes can be found on their respective card. They can all be viewed before purchasing the NFT hero.

Gender, Type, and Location

These three attributes can be found at the top center of the card. Currently, these characteristics have no use in the game, but it is expected as DeFi Kingdoms grows that these will be important. For example, location will probably be important when land NFTs are released (which will be soon), and hero type could be important for PvP. All you have to do is scroll over the icons at the top to know what gender, type, and location they have.

Location = Desert

Types: Dark, Water, Wind, Fire, Earth, and Air.

Locations: Desert, Swamp, City, and Plains.

Classes

The class of your hero is the most important attribute, as each hero has a class and subclass that determines key gameplay characteristics. Class determines the following:

  • Base stats and stats increase when gaining XP and leveling up.
  • When summoning new heroes, class is a major factor that determines the class of the summoning hero.
  • Health and Mana are determined based on a hero’s class.

There are four “bins” of classes and from low to high rarity are the following: basic, advanced, elite, and exalted. The higher classes can only be summoned, and all generation 0 heroes are a type of basic class. For example, two basic class heroes could create an advance class hero, two advanced parent heroes might create an elite class hero, and so on.

Basic Classes:

Warrior, Knight, Thief, Archer, Priest, Wizard, Monk, and Pirate

Advanced Classes (Base Stats +5):

Paladin, Darknight, Summoner, Ninja

Elite Classes (Base Stats +10):

Dragoon and Sage

Exalted Class (Base Stats +15):

Dreadknight

The class and subclass determine how a hero will grow over time and influences heroes that are summoned with that particular hero. The stats of a hero impact how well they perform quests.

Level/Stats and Experience, Summons, and Health/Mana

Hero Level, Stats, and Experience

On the front of the card, the level is displayed along with an XP Bar. You level up by gaining XP.

When a hero is first summoned, there are 8 basic stats: strength, agility, endurance, wisdom, dexterity, vitality, intelligence, and luck.

When a hero levels up the base stats increase. The class and subclass determine the probability of a stat increasing.

The development team at DeFi Kingdoms made a handy public google sheet with all of the stat increases for different classes. Here is an example:

This table shows how “Agility” will increase during a level up for the different hero classes. When a hero levels up a stat, it is basically like rolling a die and trying to get a number less than the probability listed in the table. If your “roll” is successful, the stat will increase. In this example, a ninja has the best opportunity to increase their agility stat.

The colors also represent boosted stats. There is a chance a hero’s base stats can be boosted when leveling up.

  • Green: One time +2 to base stat
  • Blue: Boosted percent chance that a stat will increase when leveling up.
  • Purple: One time +2 to base stat and boosted percent chance that a stat will increase when leveling up.

Summons:

The summons bar on each card shows how many times the hero can be used to create a new hero. For example, if it says 4/9, then that hero has 5 summons left. The number of summons a new hero has is determined by the hero’s parents and will be one less than the parent with the lowest summons remaining. Once summons run out you can not get anymore.

Note: Gen 0 heroes have an unlimited number of summons, which makes them very expensive and sought after.

Health/Mana:

The health (symbol = heart) and mana (symbol = blue jewel) are located at the bottom and the right of the screen, respectively.

Basic heroes health and mana sum up to 175 and are split based on class and sub-class. Higher tiered classes will have more health/mana.

Hero Professions and Rarity

There are four different types of professions for heroes – Mining, Gardening, Fishing, and Foraging. The hero’s profession will be highlighted in green on the back of the card.

This hero’s profession is foraging.

Each profession is associated with specific hero stats. Here’s an overview of each profession:

Mining:

Heroes need good strength and endurance stats for mining. They can be sent to the Jewel mine, where they can unlock $Jewel. They can also be sent to the gold mine where they can mine $Gold. Mining has not yet been released and is coming soon.

Fishing:

Heroes need good agility and luck stats for this profession. Fishing requires a fixed amount of stamina per attempt,  and heroes are rewarded with different fish that can be sold for $gold or later used to create potions. You can currently fish and create potions.

Gardening:

Heroes need good wisdom and vitality stats for this profession. Gardening quests are done in your own garden, and can help speed the growth of $JEWEL producing plants. One hero can visit a garden at a time, and heroes will burn stamina at a set rate for every 10 minutes of gardening.

Foraging:

Heroes need good dexterity and intelligence for foraging. When foraging, heroes pick out useful plants and other items. As foraging skills increase, the more likely a hero will find valuable items. foraging requires a fixed amount of stamina and multiple heroes can be used.

Rarity:

There are five different levels of rarity for heroes ranging from common to mythic. Rarity directly impacts the base stats of the hero. Common heroes have a cumulative base stat of 62 and base stats increase by 2 for each increase in rarity.

Common < Uncommon < Rare < Legendary < Mythic

Choosing The Right DeFi Kingdom Heroes

Choosing a hero really depends on how you want to use your hero and what your price range is.

The biggest things to consider are profession, stats, and class. The goal is to find a profession that matches its class and stats. You want to find heroes that have the best balance of these three attributes, and check the heroes stat buffs to see if they align with its profession.

If you intend on creating more heroes, the two major factors are the number of summons remaining and the generation number. These two pair with each other as follows: the more summons you have available, the more heroes you can create, and the higher the generation the greater the cost is to summon new heroes.

Therefore, you should look for a HIGH number of summons remaining and a LOW generation number.

Buying A Hero

Buying a hero is pretty simple. You go to the tavern and speak to the agent. There are plenty of ways to filter by classes, professions, and stats buffs.

But, if you want to buy a hero for a specific profession, you will want to pair the google stats sheet provided by DeFi Kingdoms with the important stats for each profession. Here, I will list which heroes and stats are best for each profession, and when buying a hero, you can reference this:

Mining (Strength and Endurance):

  • Dark Knight (85/60)
  • Paladin (80/80)
  • Dragoon (80/70)
  • Warrior (75/65)

  • Summoner (85/50)
  • Paladin (65/80)
  • Priest (80/50)
  • Wizard (80/50)
