Hedera Hashgraph Partners With Ubisoft

Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR), the environmentally friendly chain “graph”, announced a partnership with game developer Ubisoft today. As part of the agreement, Ubisoft receives membership in the Hedera Governing Council, as operate a node on the network.

As part of the council membership, Ubisoft representatives will participate in governance, product decisions. In addition, Ubisoft representatives will provide the needed guidance into gaming industry for Hedera.

Hedera is a proof-of-stake chain that eschews the idea of the block for the graph because its design allows it to increase its speed of verification as transactions on the network increase. It’s environmentally friendly to the point that it’s self described as a “carbon negative” cryptocurrency.

On the partnership Alex Russian of the HBAR foundation said, “Ubisoft has been a pioneer in its engagement with distributed ledger technology, and the decision to directly engage with THF to enhance the support it provides to entertainment and gaming innovators provides tremendous opportunities for developers, startups and users alike.”

Ubisoft sounds similarly excited: “At Ubisoft, we believe that the distributed ledger technology holds a key to the future of gaming by opening new opportunities for players to become true stakeholders of our games. The Hedera network offers a promising take on this technology, notably through its scalability, energy efficiency and innovative consensus mechanism,” Didier Genevois, their Blockchain Technical Director.

For Hedera, this isn’t the first instance of the crypto project foraying into the blockchain gaming space. Back in May of 2021, Hedera announced a partnership with play-to-earn patron Animoca Brands.

Animoca Brands also partnered with Ubisoft back in October of 2021, shortly before the gaming giant announced that it was officially launching a game with NFT integration.

In December of 2021, Ubisoft updated its Ghost Recon game to include in game NFTs, allowing gamers to essentially own the rights to in-game purchases. At the time Ubisoft said, the game update “aims at offering you more autonomy and agency when interacting with the in-game items that help you craft your own story.”

Nevertheless, the move was met with pushback by the gaming crowd. Despite the fact that it’s been clamoring for years for rights to their in game products. Not to mention, Tezos is environmentally friendly. Same with Hedera Hashgraph.

Similarly to Hedera, Ubisoft became a validator on the Tezos Network. Eventually that partnership led to the NFT integration.

It’s unclear what path the relationship will take as of yet. But it’s worth nothing that HBAR is “designed” to reach a 100,000 transactions per second. This would make it scalable to Visa’s level.
