Yes, Coinbase Is Producing Bored Ape Trilogy

Coinbase Producing Bored Ape Trilogy

Coinbase announced today that it’s producing a trilogy worth of Bored Ape Yacht Club movies starring the apes themselves. The series of films is being referred to as “The Degen Trilogy” and according to Coinbase’s Twitter they will be “interactive” and include the Bored Ape and ApeCoin communities.

The series of films will have an open casting call, meaning Bored Ape owners can submit their apes for the role of a lifetime. The Degen Trilogy is expected in June, just in time for NFT.NYC.

After their world premiere, the films will be a part of the launch of the much-ballyhooed Coinbase NFT marketplace. Users will be required to have a Coinbase wallet to watch the films.

Will It Be Any Good?

No plot details have been announced. Or, run time for that matter. Based on the timeline — June release date, casting still TBA — this trilogy is likely to be a series of short films. So those hoping for a run time rivaling Episode IV-VI, I imagine, will be disappointed.

As for what kind of quality level we can expect, based on the little details, it’s hard to know. If Coinbase pulls an FTX and gives Larry David a blank check than it could end up pretty good. If this is truly crowdsourced, uh yeah…

Nevertheless, it’s exciting to see NFTs and crypto testing out the possibilities of NFT tech and community. And better yet, giving hope for others in the NFT space — imagine a series of films on the Cryptodickbutt universe (CDBU)?
