NFL Draft Insanity

For those unfamiliar with how the NFL works, players are drafted by teams coming out of college. Every year, talented players’ have their “draft stock” fall. Sometimes it’s for reasonable things like this; but most of the time players are dinged for getting catfished or having smoked weed once with a gas mask on.

Obviously, those are the sort of things that clearly wouldn’t affect how a player performs on the field. But NFL teams aren’t as smart as you’d think, and every year players drop for some crazy reason. Though, this year might take the cake.

Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was once projected to go first overall, has seen his stock fall in part thanks to the fact that he’s into… NFTs.

Kayvon Thibodeaux NFTs Are A Problem

Thibodeaux, former defensive end for the Oregon Ducks, released his 1/1s on OpenSea back in July of 2021. Like most NFT bros, he loves to talk everyone’s ear off about non-fungible tokens. This is apparently a problem for some crusty NFL types.

“I was at the combine, and an old school scout, a guy that I’ve known for years, was rolling his eyes to me and is like, ‘This kid has an NFT…  I don’t know what an NFT is.'” said Peter Schrager of the NFL Network during an appearance on Peter King’s podcast. Schrager is known for being very well connected to team personnel.

‘And yes you can roll your eyes,” Schrager added. “He’s not the only one talking about NFTs right now. Maybe it’s the other way around.”

It’s true. NFL personnel are notoriously out of touch. It’s even more dumbfounding, considering the league partnered with NFL All Day and teams are starting to get their own partnerships going with crypto exchanges.

Thibodeaux is still projected to land in the top 10, despite his love for NFTs.
