Crypto Combat: Avalanche and Polygon Beef on Twitter
Crypto feuds are nothing new. Polygon and Avalanche’s spar is the latest iteration.

Negativity in the Spotlight
Prices are down, sentiment is bearish, and inevitably, negativity finds itself center-stage. Crypto has always suffered from tribalism: “my chain is better than yours!” There is nothing wrong with competition, but it’s certainly cringe-inducing when founders and leaders of a project are engaging in petty Twitter wars. It’s one thing to defend the technical merits of your project or dispel erroneous claims. It’s another thing when sophomoric mud-slinging occurs.
Unfortunately, this is what is occurring with Polygon and Avalanche. The issue stems from Avalanche folks accusing Polygon of “copying” their subnets without parsing out the details. Considering that copying open source code and forking is literally intrinsic to the space, this quibble is even more absurd than it would be normally. As an example, Sushiswap is literally a copy/paste of Uniswap. Pancakeswap is also a direct clone of Uniswap. In crypto, this is par for the course, nothing to bat an eye at.

What are you talking about? This is a copy of subnets called super and you are saying this is what Avalanche should have been?

Subnets v Supernets
As mentioned above, the root of the quarrel stems from the newly announced “supernets” by Polygon. Supernets operate similar to Polkadot’s parachains. “Polygon Supernet gives developers the ability to build their projects in a customizable environment without hosting or operational costs.” It essentially allows for customizable, easily deployable blockchains. “It is a modular framework designed to support a variety of scaling and infrastructure solutions, from sovereign and enterprise EVM chains to full-blown Layer 2 solutions.”
Apparently, this launch looks like a shameless copy of Avalanches subnets, both of which are scaling solutions, meant to buttress their ‘main-chain’. “Subnets, or subnetworks, allow projects to stake $AVAX to create their L1 or L2 blockchains. These blockchains are then secured by a dynamic set of validators, working together to achieve a consensus.” After Avalanche big-wigs meme’d Polygon about their supernets, the conflict ensued.
.@avalancheavax leadership looks so insecure & scared with @0xPolygon SUPERNETS and resorts to shit talking
The real reason is that Their “mainchain” is a complete failure. The gas fees became unhealthy with minuscule traction. Hence their rescue is subnet, which are just 1/2 https://t.co/jvGjjBS3Vn

The Battle For EVM Supremacy
A flurry of Avalanche folks began tweeting incessantly at Sandeep. Sandeep went on to say: “I’m sorry to break it to you, but you got cheated once again by yet another Eth killer, anon. Wake up!” He then accused Avalanche leadership of gaslighting other communities. It is clear that considering both subnets and supernets are looking to scale and create superior solutions to capture the liquidity of EVM compatibility. Both communities are battling to argue that their scaling solution is better than the next.
Avalanche influencers hit hard at Polygon and their centralization, stating that just 3 nodes control 33% of the network. Many would argue it is good to expose the underlying reality behind these so-called “scaling solutions.” If anything, it shines a light on the nature of crypto as it stands today. This nascent technology is in an expansion phase, changing by the minute. New solutions and new developments can quickly be as relevant as yesterday’s newspapers. Unfortunately, cannibalism and collateral damage will continue.
LMAO! Gas fees increase due to control state growth which effects every EVM chain, the immediate solution isn't to just increase block space at the cost of decentralisation like with polygon where 3 nodes control more than 33% of the network, have frequent very deep reorgs https://t.co/ekdb8WNJdP
