Another Huge Video Game Publisher Is Looking To Get Into NFTs

After Ubisoft’s aggressive moves into the NFT world, now Take-Two Interactive appears to be looking into deploying the tech into their games.  Wen Grand Theft Auto NFTs?

During an investor’s call, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick had some mostly positive comments on incorporating NFTs into their many successful franchises. Take-Two is the company behind the Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead, and NBA2K Franchises.

  • “…we’re highly convinced there’s an opportunity for NFTs to fit with Take-Two’s offerings in the future,” Zelnick told investors.
  • However, the CEO is concerned with speculation in the NFT market: “We believe in rare goods, we believe in collectibles. The concern we have is that there’s a speculation going on.We want to make sure that consumers always have a good experience every time they engage with our properties and losing money on… speculation is not a good experience…”
  • What Zelnick is referring to is how NFTs aren’t just traded as collectibles with emotional attachments. NFTs are flipped like stocks and crypto regularly. Though, the same can be said for the art world. Though, since NFTs are rather nascent, unlike the art world, the concern is customers could be left holding the bag.
  • Concern for customer’s losing money is a new thing for video game publishers. The industry is greed personified. Case in point: its targeting of children with microtransactions.
  • Zelnick didn’t give investors any specifics what form Take-Two Interactive NFTs would take.
  • One of Take-Two’s competitors Ubisoft has already made major moves into the NFT space, having partnered with Tezos, and Hedera Hashgraph.
