Here’s What We Know About The Upcoming ETHDenver Conference

ETHDenver might not sound as big or important as, say, North American Bitcoin Conference, but its importance to Ethereum can’t be understated. Learn more about the conference and how you can sign up — there’s a skill testing question!

What Is ETHDenver Conference?

The fifth annual ETHDenver is set to begin February 11th, 2022, and conclude February 20th. The conference bills itself as the “largest and longest running ETH event in the world.” And there is good reason for that.

ETHDenver embodies the ethos undergirding the smart contract protocol through its member-owned DAO structure, hackathons with applications (open to anyone), and a diverse lineup of speakers from all walks of life — not just blockchain.

“ The purpose of ETHDenver is to bring together builders, creatives, and change-makers to continue driving the adoption of this new world. We are working closely with the state of Colorado and the global blockchain community to actualize this goal,” John Paller, founder of ETHDenver.

Interestingly, the event doesn’t take place in Toronto, where Ethereum was first conceived during Bitcoin meetups at the Pauper’s Pub. On the Buzzsproud podcast, Paller explained that Denver, “from a social, political standpoint… it fits with crypto really really. So why not create Colorado as the destination of choice?”

ETHDenver Conference Participants/Speakers/Sponsors

Participants

The event originally started as a Hackathon only and eventually grew into the multi-disciplinary event that it is today. However, the Hackathon is still a major part of the event.

The event serves as an incubator and launching pad for blockchain startups. Participating successfully in the event provides startups with connections to infrastructure and year-round support from the community.

ETHDenver will become an incubator and launchpad for early-stage blockchain startups by connecting them back to state infrastructure, allowing year-round support for the initiatives.

Speakers

The ETHDenver event this year features an incredibly long list of speakers. For the entire list, click here.

Some of the more notable speakers include Kimbal Musk, Colorado Governor Jared Polis, and Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin — who’s also doing the keynote.

Note: some of the speaker events take place at the Jonas Bros venue. This is not to be confused with the band Jonas Brothers. So don’t be a sucker and get a ticket just to see the Jo Bros.

Sponsors

ETHDenver sponsors include the biggest names as far layer-2 solutions go and one of Ethereum’s biggest rivals not named Cardano.

As far as layer-2s go, PolygonS, and Harmony are prominently involved in the event. In particular, Harmony One is hosting an event for female developers as well as providing travel scholarships for travel to the ETHDenver conference.

As far as that rival I mentioned earlier. You can see Algorand is prominently involved with the event. The Silvio Micali-led project is hosting AlgoRanch, which will feature its own chats,  panels, and workshops. It’s essentially a giant networking party for all those Algo fans out there.

ETHDenver Conference: Signing Up

Luckily attending virtually is free. However, currently, there is a waiting list in order to attend the event. Signing up for the waitlist is fairly straightforward.

Once you’re on the home page, go to apply. You will be prompted with this screen.

Shortly after, you will be asked a skill testing question of sorts. The answer is Key F.

It’s a reference to BuffiDAI, the stablecoin, and the subsequent NFT. To assuage yourself of the guilt for cheating, read about the history of “Buffi” at the link above. It’s actually pretty interesting. Eth-based DeFi protocol MakerDAO developed a “local coin” just for ETHDenver.

After that, it’s all very self explanatory. Once you’re done, you just have to wait patiently for your invite to the Ethereum conference to come.
