5G will impact US$1.2 trillion on Brazilian GDP, says Nokia CEO

Nokia’s CEO in Brazil, Ailton Santos, stated that Brazil needs to install the new 5G technology soon to reap the benefits of the process. The statement was given in an interview with Veja. “Nokia commissioned a study through Omdia where it was pointed out that, with the implementation of 5G in Brazil, we should have an impact of US$ 1.2 trillion on GDP by 2035” , said the executive.According to the report, Nokia should be one of the main beneficiaries of the technology adoption in the country and is ahead in the infrastructure market for the new connection, alongside the companies Huawei and Ericsson. Ailton Santos said that Brazil does not is way behind in implementing the technology. For him, the “difference of a few months is not very critical”, but the sooner the installation is done, the sooner it will have benefits.

5G IN BRAZIL

Communications Minister Fábio Faria said on July 14 that some capitals in the country may have pure 5G, also known as standalone 5G, by the end of 2021. The minister did not say which cities would be. He reiterated that all capitals will have the new technology by July 2022. The standalone 5G is the fastest and most evolved version of the technology. The plenary of the TCU (Court of Accounts of the Union) will vote on the 5G auction process on August 18th , at 10 am.
