AMC Accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, And Two Others

AMC CEO Adam Aron announced via Twitter that his movie theatre chain is officially accepting several cryptocurrencies for online payments for tickets and concessions. AMC first announced it would accept Bitcoin back in August.

Unsurprisingly, two of the cryptos are Bitcoin and Ethereum. The number one and two cryptos in terms of total market cap continue to dominate the rest of the crypto world in terms of mainstream adoption.

Surprisingly, the other two are Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin. Neither Bitcoin Cash (ticker symbol: BCH) or Litecoin (ticker symbol: LTC) have the hype behind them that upstart cryptocurrencies like Cardano and Solana. Both BCH and LTC sit outside the top 10 in market cap, with LTC at 14 and BCH barely hanging on at 20.

Real News Dump v. Fake News Pump

Even more surprisingly: Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin both popped more on fake news than real news. Famously, Walmart was apparently working on Litecoin payments, while recently Kroger was looking to integrate the incredibly slow BCH. Both cryptocurrencies are down 3% in the last 24 hours.

To be fair, both BCH and LTC’s poor performance is in line with the rest of the market, which is also down 3% overall. Currently, the global market cap sits at $2.76 billion USD.

Aron also announced AMC is accepting Google Pay, Apple Pay, and PayPal. Aron noted that the combination of Web2 and Web3 payment options, “…already account for 14% of our total online transactions!”

Doge And Shib Next?

In the same jam-packed Tweet, Aron also said that Dogecoin (ticker symbol: DOGE) is the next cryptocurrency AMC will add to its list. The move has been eagerly awaited by the very loyal DOGE holders.

No official plans yet for Shiba Inu, DOGE’s unironic imitator. But, a Twitter poll conducted by Aron may have forced his hand.

“A lot of you voted, and a lot of you voted yes, and we are now figuring out how we can take shiba inu as a currency,” Aron said during his billion-dollar company’s earnings call.
