AMC Theatres Considers Accepting Dogecoin
AMC Theatres made an announcement about accepting four cryptocurrencies and added that it was considering accepting dogecoin as well. The chief executive officer of AMC conducted a poll on Twitter and found himself overwhelmed by the results. He appeared to be impressed by the enthusiasm of the dogecoin community. He stated that it was apparent that they wanted them to accept dogecoin and now they just had to figure out how to do it. AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. had announced that they would now be accepting payments in four cryptocurrencies, which are bitcoin, litecoin, bitcoin cash and ether.
After the announcement, Adam Aron, the CEO had set up the poll and asked the crypto community on Twitter whether the company should also consider accepting the renowned meme crypto known as dogecoin (DOGE). AMC Entertainment Holdings is recognized as the largest movie exhibition firm in Europe, the United States and the world. As of March 31st, the company owns and operates a total of 10,500 screens and 950 theatres globally. On Tuesday, Aron tweeted that he sincerely wanted to get the opinion of people through the Twitter poll. He said that by the end of the year, AMC would start accepting online payments in the four cryptocurrencies mentioned above.
He said that many on his twitter feed had suggested that they add dogecoin to the list as well and he wanted to know what the overall crypto community thought of it. The poll results showed that around 68.1% of the total 140,388 voters wanted AMC to go ahead, whereas 8.6% said that while they supported its addition as a payment option, they would use it personally. Only 23.3% of the people said that they didn’t want the company to accept DOGE as a payment option. The tweet by the AMC CEO was liked and retweeted plenty of times.
However, the most noticeable part is that it was also liked by Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, who is an avid dogecoin supporter. As a matter of fact, he has championed the meme crypto so much that he has also been called the Dogefather. Musk had recently disclosed that he also personally owned some DOGE. He, along with Mark Cuban, the owner of the NBA team Dallas Mavericks, called dogecoin as the strongest crypto that was available for payments. The AMC CEO also talked about Musk liking his tweet. He said he never thought he would actually see the day when Elon Musk would like his Twitter poll tweet.
He then congratulated Musk on Spacex and Tesla in the tweet and said that he had always wanted to be an innovator, but Musk had proven to be the epitome of innovation. Aron announced on Wednesday via Twitter that AMC was now exploring how they could start accepting payments in dogecoin. The CEO said that it was very fascinating because his Dogecoin Poll had been his highest read tweet. It had gotten 4.2 million views in 24 hours, along with his most ever retweets and replies.
