  • Pascal hard fork introduces Ethereums EIP-7702 for native smart contract wallets.
  • BEP-439 enhances BNB Chains cryptography using the BLS12-381 curve for faster verification.
  • BNB Chains Lorentz and Maxwell forks will reduce block intervals to 1.5s and 0.75s.

The Pascal hard fork update of BNB Chain will commence its testnet launch on February 25, 2025 before moving to the mainnet upgrade during mid-March 2025. The update seeks to enhance Ethereum compatibility on the blockchain through selected features from Ethereums Pectra upgrade. BNB Chain seeks to boost compatibility between its network and Ethereum by implementing this partnership to benefit its developer community while enhancing user experience.

The Pascal hard fork introduces several enhancements to BSCs infrastructure, including native smart contract wallets, increased account abstraction, and improved security features. The planned changes will enable more complicated decentralized applications (dApps) and deliver enhanced security together with fund management flexibility to users.

Key Features of the Pascal Hard Fork

One of the standout features of the Pascal hard fork is the introduction of native smart contract wallets. These wallets enable more secure and flexible account management by allowing users to store and interact with assets through smart contracts rather than private keys alone. This provides account recovery, multi-signature support, spending limits, and batch transactions.

Incorporating Ethereums EIP-7702, BNB Chains smart contract wallets significantly enhance account abstraction, which enables users to manage their blockchain accounts directly through smart contracts. This change enables better fund management and enhanced dApp interactions, resulting in new development opportunities for improved applications.

BEP-439, equivalent to Ethereums EIP-2537, enhances security by implementing the BLS12-381 curve. The new cryptographic solution enables multiple digital signatures to merge into a single signature, thus making transaction verification procedures more efficient.

What Users and Developers Need to Know

Most users on BNB Chain will not need to take any urgent steps regarding the Pascal hard fork. Users of dApps and token holders will not encounter disruptions since wallet providers will manage necessary updates. Users who depend on dApps need to follow updates from these platforms because gas cost changes could affect application compatibility.

Due to the Pascal hard fork, most BNB Chain users can proceed without taking any quick steps. The Pascal hard fork updates will affect users transparently since wallet providers execute necessary maintenance while users and dApp consumers maintain uninterrupted access without disruptions. Users whose dApps depend on gas cost changes should follow platform update announcements to maintain compatibility.

The Pascal hard fork requires developers to modify their code to support its changes. The update modifies the block header structure by adding RequestsHash as a new field. All developers manually process block header data should modify their coding logic to support the new RequestsHash field and maintain network connection compatibility. Smart contract wallets as well as the multiple enhancements from the Pascal hard fork should be investigated by developers.

BNB Chain has planned two additional hard forks which will launch during 2025 after Pascal. The Lorentz hard fork set to launch in April will reduce block intervals to 1.5 seconds thus boosting transaction capacity numbers. With the upcoming June hard fork the Maxwell upgrade will lower time intervals to 0.75 seconds thus optimizing network speed and efficiency.
