Closing Dialogue with Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong “Asia at Crossroads: A World Disrupted”
Yesterday, Herbert Sim was in attendance for the Closing Dialogue session with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Mr Lawrence Wong. The session entitled “Asia at Crossroads: A world disrupted”, was held at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy National University of Singapore, on October 14.
As the world undergoes efforts to overcome the pandemic, preserve our environment, manage geo-economics risks, and protect state sovereignty, the international community has watched, sometimes criticised, and at other times emulated the words and actions of Asian countries. These challenges, compounded by demographic and technological change, also bring opportunities.
At this crossroad, will Asia step up and fill the urgent need for global leadership? Or will the region itself succumb to new threats and tensions? The answer will lie in the ability of societies and communities to leverage the ideas, talents and knowledge available to them and to pursue good governance, both in their domestic and foreign policies.
The session explored the topic of the “Future of Singapore” where DPM Wong shared ideas with participants about how collectively Singaporeans can build on Singapore’s strengths and position the country for future success in the face of considerable challenges both domestically and externally.
The panel was moderated by Professor Danny Quah, Dean and Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
