Comedian Norm Macdonald Might Have Been A Crypto Bull
Legendary comedian Norm Macdonald passed away yesterday after a 10 year-long battle with cancer. Though a star of both movies and television, he’s perhaps best known for hosting SNL’s Weekend Update.
Macdonald, who some consider the greatest comedian of all time, kept his diagnosis and treatment a secret from almost everybody.
Apparently, being sick isn’t funny.

Macdonald’s commitment to the bit is unquestioned. Which is why some were suspicious of his interest in crypto.

“Hey, do any of you guys know if it’s possible to use cryptocurrency to deposit and to play online poker?,” Macdonald tweeted out to his followers back in 2019. Bitcoin maxi’s took it as an opportunity to flout fiat, but most just attributed the crypto reference to Norm’s famous gambling habit.
After all, Norm had admitted to losing everything he had 2 times over gambling on poker and sports. It was more than likely that paying with crypto was just a work around for the problem gambler.
But then earlier this year he tweeted this:
Hey, guys I understand completely. When I finally understood the underpinnings of crypto, it was one of the most edifying moments. It is so deep, please dive in. I studied six months eight hours a day and what a joy. And I hope you get as lucky as I did as a result. Peace.

There wasn’t even the slightest bit of irony therein. But it’s Norm Macdonald. He’s known for his legendarily droll and long setups. But then he kept tweeting. And tweeting some more. He even revealed his totally legit sounding portfolio.

A skeptic might say he was pulling a “McAfee,” a.k.a. shilling crypto to pay off debts. But his portfolio certainly looked scam coin free.
Outside of his tweets, Macdonald never publicly discussed his interest in crypto. Though, Macdonald agreed to appear on The Rekt Podcast to talk about his interest in crypto. But, obviously health got in the way.
Regardless of what appeared to be a serious interest in crypto, some were left wondering if this was yet another one of Norm’s classic bits: “Norm and Crypto??? Anyone have any idea if he’s trolling or serious???”, a Reddit user asked.
Considering what he did best, it’s a totally fair question. And, I guess we’ll never know.
Norm Macdonald was 61.
