  • Superior is a superhero co-op shooter game similar to Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
  • The highly anticipated shooter game will be available on Steam as an “Early Access Game” in late 2022.

Gala Games, a leader in the blockchain gaming and entertainment space, shared that its much-awaited game, Superior, will be available for wishlisting on Steam before its official launch later this year.

Launching a game on Steam is a key achievement for Gala Games after having released the first blockchain game on Epic Game Store, a direct competitor to Steam.

Superior: A Super Shooter Game Worth a Shot

Superior was developed by Drifter, a Seattle-based game developer. Some of the developers from Drifter have worked in studios such as Epic Games, which released the popular Gears of War series. Particularly, Ray Davis, CEO of Drifter, has worked as a lead programmer for Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2. The launch is part of Gala Games’ campaign of transitioning giant game studios into Web 3.0.

Here’s an outline of Superior’s features:

  • Superior is a three-person co-op third-person shooter game where players can run through a series of randomly generated missions filled with special objectives, enemies, and environments.
  • Players complete missions by shooting down other superheroes, stealing their powers, and beating mutated enemies.
  • With each mission completed, players can earn XP and upgrade their superheroes’ skills, improving their powers, abilities, and stats to fight stronger enemies.
  • Each character comes with a set of unique playstyles, advantages, and skills. Players can access a plethora of unique combinations of diverse superpowers, weapons, items, and abilities to make their character stronger.
  • Since Superior is a rogue-lite game, players can play in a dynamically changing world with unique locations, challenges, monsters, and missions. Since progress in a mission will be dynamically reconfigured, no playthrough will ever be the same.

John Osvald, President of Gala Games, shared his excitement about the upcoming game, stating that everyone who has played it loves it. Osvald added that he’s eager to launch the game before the end of the year.

On the Flipside

  • No exact date has been announced for when Superior will be released. However, it’s important to note that the game will be released as an “Early Access Game,” which means it’s still undergoing development and, upon release, will remain on the platform for 3-4 months.
  • Superior still uses the DirectX 11 standard, released in 2009, instead of the better-performing DirectX 12 standard, which was released in 2015.

Superior will launch as part of the new wave of Web 3.0 games despite Steam having banned Web 3.0 games. It’s reasonable to infer that Steam may have eased its ban considering competitors such as Epic Games have been evolving to facilitate the adoption of Web 3.0.

Why You Should Care

Gala Games is revolutionizing the blockchain gaming industry by encouraging AAA game studios to transition to Web 3.0. Gamers are eagerly waiting for Superior, which most have lauded as the most professional AAA-caliber blockchain game yet. Launching Superior will be a big step towards the mainstream adoption of Web 3.0 gaming.
