Here’s The Latest On The Sudden Discontinuation Of Tezos-Based NFT Marketplace Hic Et Nunc

Hic ET Nunc: this is an ongoing story. Please check back for updates.

Popular NFT platform Hic Et Nunc (HEN) abruptly went offline last night. Why exactly is still unclear as there is no official word from anyone directly involved with the NFT marketplace.

Hic Et Nunc is informally known as the “Tezos NFT marketplace.” Of course, it’s not the only marketplace on the smart contract protocol, though it’s by far the most popular and beloved. Not to mention, the marketplace is also a prominent example of the clean NFTs movement through the Tezos chain.

  • Hic Et Nunc founder Rafael Lima first posted a message on the platform’s official Discord and changed his Twitter bio to “Discontinued”. Soon thereafter, Lima took down the NFT marketplace.
  • All HEN NFTs are safe. If you own one, you are not affected by the discontinuation.
  • The strong HEN community rallied around the closure, promptly organizing a mirror site within 2 hours of Lima’s discontinuation. It’s accessible here.
  • According to Kaloh.xyz, who is involved with the new Hic Et Nunc marketplace, “the revival was possible because the smart contract is running on the Tezos network, and development is entirely open-source.”

  • Also, concerns over whether or not the new marketplace is safe were immediately assuaged by several prominent members of the community.

Reasons For The Discontinuation

With no word yet from people directly involved with the project, speculation over what led to the sudden demise of HEN centers around growing tensions within the marketplace.

Recently, it was announced that Hic Et Nunc NFTs will mint directly at Objkt.com. It’s unclear if that had anything to do with Lima’s sudden exit. Objkt bills itself as, “An NFT Platform That Aims To Connect All Tezos-Based NFTs In One Single Platform.”

Future Outlook

Amazingly, for an apparently dead marketplace, Hic Et Nunc is still doing pretty well. Volume is up over 20% in the last hour thanks to the amazingly quick turnaround on the mirror site by Hic Et Nunc’s devotees.

Just last night, before the sudden discontinuation of the marketplace, the community tweeted this out.

Looking back now, it sounds both ominous and hopeful.

Despite the quick rebirth, and likely continued success of the NFT marketplace, some are feeling wistful over the kind-of, sort-of, demise of Hic Et Nun. YouTuber NFT Gospel said in his most recent video that, despite the better UI on OBJKT. “I think a lot of us are grieving because Hic Et Nun is such a vibe…”
