John Deaton Predicts XRP Will Surpass Ethereum Before End of 2025

XRPs recent entry into the exchange-traded fund market has brought renewed attention to its potential to challenge Ethereums position in the crypto rankings. On April 8, asset manager Teucrium launched a 2x leveraged XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF), which recorded a notable $5.43 million in trading volume on its first day. The ETFs performance stood out, especially considering the broader market downturn at the time.
This debut figure was approximately four times the initial volume recorded by Solanas equivalent 2x ETF, emphasizing the level of interest XRP continues to generate. Despite a price dip to $1.74 on the same day, traders remained highly engaged. The ETFs reception suggested growing confidence in its longer-term potential, even in a bearish environment.
Pro-crypto lawyer and former U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton pointed to the ETFs strong launch as further evidence of its rising strength. In a recent social media post, Deaton predicted that it could surpass Ethereum in market position before the end of the year.
Despite all the negative sentiment from people within the crypto industry, Ive always maintained that XRP has much more appeal than industry players want to admit, noted Deaton.
New World Order with XRP?
Adding to this sentiment, former Goldman Sachs executive Dom Kwok offered a similar outlook earlier this year. In a January 15 post on X, Kwok stated that there is a high chance XRP flips Ethereum very soon. He added, Are you ready for a new world order?
Deatons long-standing support for XRP has often been anchored in its strong community. He pointed to the 75,000 XRP holders who once joined forces in a legal petition during Ripples court case as a unique sign of loyalty. Referring to the effort as extraordinary, Deaton argued that few assets in the crypto space inspire such coordinated support.
While XRP has demonstrated resilience in 2025, Ethereums performance has significantly weakened. Since the beginning of the year, Ethereums value has declined by 56%, resulting in a market cap reduction of $226 billion. It currently stands at a valuation of $175 billion with a unit price of $1,479.
Market Figures Signal a Potential Shift
In contrast, XRP has seen a more moderate drop of 12.43% over the same period. Its current market cap is approximately $104.24 billion, and the asset is trading around $1.82. Earlier this year, XRP briefly reached a valuation of $196 billion, indicating its capacity for recovery even amid volatility.
Speculation around its potential to overtake Ethereum has been gaining momentum, particularly in light of these recent developments. If its price rebounds to $3 and Ethereum remains stagnant, the shift in rankings could happen more quickly than previously expected. This scenario is increasingly considered plausible, especially by analysts observing current trends.
Deaton reaffirmed his belief that XRP is on track to surpass Ethereum by the end of 2025. He believes the ETFs performance, coupled with its community strength and price stability, supports this outcome. While Ethereum maintains its position as the largest altcoin for now, its continued decline is raising concerns about its dominance.
