Kevin O’Leary On The Pomp Podcast
You know who isn’t phased by this dip? “Mr. Wonderful.”
During an appearance The Pomp Podcast (hosted by Anthony Pompliano), Kevin O’Leary was pressed on the current state of his crypto portfolio.
Pompliano asked, “Where are you today and how have your thoughts around portfolio allocation percentages, how has that changed since the last time we talked?”
The last time Pomp and O’Leary spoke in May of 2021, O’Leary had told the Bitcoin advocate that he was in the 2-4% range portfolio range, with the short-term goal of getting to 8-9%, and the eventual goal of 20%. Based on his Reddit AMA, O’Leary indeed got to his 10% goal. But according to what he told O’Leary in his latest appearance, he’s not done there.
“At year-end, last year (2021), we thought we would be at 7. We were at 10.7% in the operating company portfolio. And today… because of our recent investments in some of the equities we bought…. We’re now today, at 16.5 percent. So we are on our way to 20. and it happened really, really fast. And I’m comfortable with it.”

The equities O’Leary is referring to are Immutable Holdings (the Jordan Fried company that owns NFT.com), and WonderFi’s recent purchase of Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Bitbuy.

O’Leary’s current crypto holdings include Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Polygon, and Hedera Hashgraph among others. O’Leary also stated that the rest of his portfolio is largely made up of commercial real estate, and large-cap S&P companies.
O’Leary did note that the crypto part of his portfolio is certainly more volatile than the rest of his holdings, but he has a way around that. “Ethereum is my biggest position now. To offset that volatility I own an exchange. I want to own more exchanges.”
Institutional Investors And Crypto
There has been a lot of recent chatter on institutions and crypto lately. Largely, it’s surrounded the lack of dip buying from institutional players. And, it’s justified looking at the numbers. But, if O’Leary’s optimism is well-founded, it sounds like it’s not a permanent indifference to crypto.
“I know that a lot of institutions are going through the angst I’m having. I can’t find better opportunities than these [blockchain] companies. This is like investing in the earliest days of the internet. We are in the first inning of this stuff,” O’Leary told Pomp. “One day, crypto and all these software platforms are going to be the 12th sector of the S&P. I’m just taking the bet now that we are on our way there now.”
O’Leary later added, “Pomp, I’m probably, by at the end of this quarter, gonna be at 20%.”
