The best plot twists don’t come out of nowhere. They are like a puzzle with pieces you failed to connect. When put together for you, you feel satisfied for at least knowing you could have solved it yourself. With that said, Ken Griffin winning Thursday night’s Sotheby’s auction is about as satisfying as it gets.

After an apparently tense auction, Griffin, who is at the helm of the too powerful hedge fund Citadel, outbid the Constitution DAO to the tune of $43 million USD. Going into the auction, Sotheby’s had anticipated the winning bid to be around $15 million USD.
“I intend to ensure that this copy of our Constitution will be available for all Americans and visitors to view and appreciate in our museums and other public spaces,” the CEO said in a statement.

Griffin, who is a billionaire, ended up paying over $40 million dollars in order to ensure that all American citizens had access to this particular copy of Constitution. Of course, Americans have that access already via the Constitution Center for one, but I guess now they will have another access point thanks to Ken Griffin, American hero.

Funny enough, ConstitutionDAOs vision for how the Constitution should be displayed isn’t that different from the American hero’s. The Ethereum-based DAO planned to have its members vote on a variety of proposals including a traveling exhibit, and a potential showcase at the Smithsonian.
This isn’t the first time Griffin has caught the ire of the commonfolk. Earlier this year, Citadel did the equivalent of rage quitting a video game, when it forced exchanges like Robinhood to halt the trading of GameStop.
Citadel decided 2021 was the year to wage war on the internet.
