Recently Launched Samsung Galaxy S22 Series Boast Crypto Blockchain Wallet
- It started with the Samsung Blockchain Wallet on the Galaxy S10.
- Apple has also stated that it has been keeping an eye on the crypto market.
On Wednesday, Samsung announced the Galaxy S22 series. The Galaxy S22 Ultra was renamed the Galaxy Note when Samsung discontinued the Galaxy Note brand. If you’ve been following the leaks leading up to Unpacked, then the Galaxy S22 event has nothing new to announce. However, Samsung did throw a surprise that will appeal to a specific group of Galaxy S22 buyers: those who are interested in cryptocurrency.
Samsung Wallet, preloaded on the Galaxy S22 phones, provides everything you’d expect from a smartphone digital wallet. However, Samsung Wallet will accept crypto transactions, including bitcoin and other digital tokens, unlike the Wallet app for the iPhone.
Google Adds Wallet Support Too
The Galaxy S22 isn’t the first time Samsung has shown interest in integrating cryptocurrency functionality into its devices. Galaxy phones already have this capability. It started with the Samsung Blockchain Wallet on the Galaxy S10 a few years back.
Samsung introduced hardware wallet functionality to its Blockchain Wallet in May of this year. It was about this time in spring 2021 when bitcoin hit a new all-time high. The new Samsung Wallet on the Galaxy S22 hasn’t been discussed in terms of crypto transactions by Samsung so far.
Apple has also stated that it has been keeping an eye on the crypto market. However, Apple has not yet confirmed that its Wallet app for iOS would support bitcoin. In the same vein, Google adds support for cryptocurrencies to its Google Pay network. However, Google Wallet does not have the same support for the Galaxy S22 as Samsung Wallet.
