The Solana (SOL) smart contract platform has caught the attention of crypto investors over the past several months after quickly climbing to the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Many decentralized finance (DeFi) users have flocked to the platform to avoid the erroneous gas fees that users have been struggling with on the Ethereum network.

Solana is now integrating with the popular web browser Brave in an effort to become the de facto standard blockchain platform to host Brave’s 42 million monthly active users.

What A Solana Integration Means For Brave Users

In a direct announcement from the Brave team, Brave says that its integration with Solana will bring the ‘best-in-class’ wallet features to both desktop and mobile users.

Anatoly Yakovenko, CEO of Solana Labs, says that mobile adoption will be the primary gateway to the decentralized web for billions of people.

“Deep integration with browsers is key to helping DApps build the best web experiences. Brave’s announcement of Solana wallet support across all versions of their browsers is an important step to onboard the next billion users to Solana.”

What is Brave Browser?

Brave is a free, open-source web browser designed with a privacy focus. By default, the browser automatically blocks online advertisements and website trackers. Brave users also get paid to use the browser as it passively mines Basic Attention Token (BAT) as you surf the web like normal.

Over the past three weeks, BAT has appreciated more than 80%, trading at a current value of $1.19, according to CoinGecko. The recent surge in price could be a result of more and more users seeking alternatives to traditional browsers like Chrome.

Solana: Looking Forward To The Future Of Decentralized Web

Brendan Eich, CEO and co-founder of Brave, is expecting Solana to help onboard another billion users to the decentralized web.

“With more and more users and creators requiring tools for fast and affordable access to the decentralized web, this integration will seamlessly pave the way for the next billion crypto users to harness applications and tokens.”

Despite the browser’s partnership with the smart contract protocol, Brave specifies that it still supports Ethereum and believes an interoperable blockchain future will drive crypto adoption.

“Brave continues to support Ethereum and intends to integrate support for additional blockchains within the Brave browser over time, and believes a blockchain-agnostic multi-chain wallet will be a key driver in mainstream crypto and DeFi adoption.”
