The Biggest Blockchain Game In The World Launches Its First DEX

Axie Infinity announced today via their Substack that their decentralized exchange (DEX) Katana is officially live. The DEX allows users to trade various Axie related assets like AXS, SLP, USDC, and WETH.
“With Ronin’s release, the Axie nation has entered a new age. Economic activity is booming and we’ve welcomed new citizens at a rate that’s shocked the world,” Axie Infinity said through Substack. “Today, we take one step closer to a more prosperous future for our digital nation.”

A DEX allows Axie Inifinity users to cut off the middleman. Up until now, users were required to use exchanges like Binance to sell their Axies. Using exchanges adds extra cost, time, and friction. The latter especially can be problematic during surprise “maintenance” announcements. In addition, the sidechain promises to be a cheaper alternative to Ethereum.
Axie’s DEX is built on the Ronin blockchain. Ronin is an Ethereum sidechain developed by Sky Mavis, the company behind Axie Infinity. The Vietnamese company modus operandi is staked in the blockchain gaming space: “We build games with player owned economies – true digital nations.”
Axie Infinity is building everything in-house eschewing big-name partnerships that dominate the crypto sphere. The partnerships are hit or miss, and even if they are useful, are an obvious marketing ploy. Axie’s “build from within” strategy is definitely unique for a space that can’t wait to announce that they are the umpteenth project to have partnered with Chainlink.
On the news, Axie Infinity’s AXS token is up almost 10% in the last 24 hours. It’s trading in the $150 USD range.
