The Sandbox and FlickPlay Form Partnership for Metaverse Project
- The Sandbox gaming platform and metaverse has taken decisive steps to be the first platform to merge NFTs from the physical world with the virtual world.
- The companies expect interoperability between the two platforms to be ready by the end of this year.
As a result of the partnership announced on Monday by FlickPlay and The Sandbox, gamers will be able to use blockchain assets from either project on both platforms, an instrumental step in building the metaverse, Reuters reported.
Thanks to the interoperability, users of The Sandbox will be able to freely move themselves and their assets between different virtual platforms; including wearing virtual clothing and carrying over in-game property similar to that in the real world.
There is still a long way to go before the virtual reality metaverse is a staple. Achieving this will require collaboration between a wide array of companies and developers working in the metaverses, including Meta (formerly) Facebook, Microsoft, Meta Platforms Inc. and Epic Games.
Unlocking Digital Collectibles
FlickPlay allows players to unlock digital collectibles through the use of an interactive map based on a real, physical environment.
Using Augmented Reality, these collectibles can be overlaid on the real world using the smartphone’s camera. Then, by interacting with these objects, users can make videos, images and any other type of content.
The first collection of non-fungible tokens (NFT) announced by the project was called ‘Flicky’ and features several anthropomorphic chameleon designs dressed in a wide range of clothing.
By purchasing a Flicky, users can now set the digital asset as their avatar in The Sandbox metaverse, in which players can able to build a three-dimensional virtual world.
FlickPlay founder and CEO Pierina Merino revealed that Flicky owners can now unlock a version of their unique chameleons for use in The Sandbox.
Merino added that they are working on integration that would allow FlickPlay users to use their authentic NFTs in The Sandbox “very soon”. Meanwhile, the companies are working on implementing interoperability between the games, and expect it to be ready by the end of the year.
Why You Should Care
- For the co-founder of The Sandbox, Sebastien Borget, the partnership represents a highly important integration, as it is the first to merge an NFT whose use is linked to the real world, into the virtual world, .
Borget added that the partnership between The Sandbox and FlickPlay will help "create a more immersive experience that extends into the metaverse and The Sandbox."
