A pair of announcements today involving getting paid in Bitcoin. Cash App announced during Bitcoin 2022 that the app will be automating Bitcoin payments, while UFC announced it will pay their fighters Bitcoin bonuses through a partnership with Crypto.com.

- Cash App is owned by Jack Dorsey, the pro-Bitcoin CEO of Block. Dorsey left Twitter to fully engage in Block and its Bitcoin-related companies like Cash App and the Bitcoin decentralized exchange tbDEX.
- Cash App users will be able to auto-invest their earnings directly into Bitcoin. This latest advancement follows Cash App integrating Lightning Network, which increased the speed and lowered transaction fees on the fintech platform.
- Meanwhile, UFC continues to dip its toes into crypto. Bitcoin bonuses will be paid out to the top 3 fighters at every Pay-Per-View event. The winners will be voted on by fans.
- UFC is not footing the bill. All bonuses will be paid out by Crypto.com. The exchange is famous for its indifference to a marketing budget.
- UFC’s Top Shot equivalent finally rolled out its NFT marketplace after announcing it partnered with Dapper Labs back in early 2021. So far, the partnership has reportedly earned UFC fighters some extra scratch.
- Getting paid in Bitcoin as a trend likely started with NFL star Russell Okung. Since then, players like Tom Brady, and Odell Beckham, have asked to be paid in the cryptocurrency.
