Vitalik Buterin is Losing Influence Over Ethereum, and Making Changes are Becoming More Difficult
Vitalik Buterin, one of the most influential voices in cryptocurrency and the co-founder of Ethereum, has claimed that his influence over Ethereum has continually declined, making it harder for him to make things happen.
Buterin’s Decreasing Influence Over Ethereum
Buterin, who had recently expressed concerns that the crypto industry has a ‘lot of dystopian potential if implemented wrong,’ believes his influence over Ethereum now is not what it was six months ago.
Speaking at an interview with the American tech entrepreneur and investor Naval Ravikant, Buterin says he feels like his “influence in Ethereum keeps decreasing every six months.”
It’s Becoming Harder to Make Changes at Ethereum
Buterin also explained that the process of making things happen on Ethereum is “definitely more vetocratic” than it was three years ago, making it harder to make changes to the Ethereum protocol. He notes that;
“Even now, I feel like the window is closing on substantial things. It’s getting harder to do big things even today.”
Buterin says some of the Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP) he promotes are not taken very far. In addition, he needs to try pretty hard to satisfy all people’s concerns.
He points to the EIP-4488 as the biggest initiative he promoted that wasn’t adopted. Buterin proposed via the EIP-4488 changes that would decrease the cost of Ethereum rollups over the short term.
On The Flipside
- Much to the dismay of its community, Ethereum developers have announced that the hugely anticipated network Merge will be delayed until a few months after June.
Why You Should Care
