Voyager Digital announced today via press release the launch of the first Voyager Debit Mastercard. It’s billed as the “first crypto-based debit card.”
- The Voyager Debit Mastercard automatically converts USDC into fiat currency. It promises the conversion will be seamless but did not provide any specifics on how exactly. However, the use of the second biggest stablecoin in terms of market cap appears to be a big part of that.
- On the subject of USDC, CEO of Voyager Steve Ehrlich noted, “By basing our debit card on the USD Coin (USDC), a stable coin priced 1-to-1 to the US dollar, we are offering customers a predictable and rewarding way to hold and easily convert crypto for payments…”
- The card offers 9% annual awards on all USDC holdings above $100 USD.
- Voyager joins the growing list of crypto-based financial services that offer credit card-like offerings like BlockFi and Crypto.com.
- The Steve Ehrlich-led crypto exchange recently announced one million active accounts.
- Voyager’s native token VGX is up over 1% over the last 24 hours, trading in the $2.80 range. It’s currently beating the rest of the market. As of press time, the global market cap is down 7% the last 24 hours.
