GameStop, which has been notoriously slow-moving since it rose like the phoenix last January, posted a job listing on their site early this morning looking for a head of Web3 Gaming. The posting says “Blockchains will power the commerce underneath.”

- Experience with Ethereum and NFTs is specified. The position will pay in 94k to 152k range.
- “Ideal candidate will have experience across several domains in gaming, content creation, partnerships, game design/development/mechanics, and a general understanding and experience with Ethereum, NFTs, and blockchain based gaming platforms,” GameStop said in their job posting.
- It looks like they are looking to get into Pay to Earn gaming. But, it’s unclear if they are looking to develop games in-house or want to hire someone with knowledge of the world.
- Since GameStop first announced its foray into NFTs, their plan has been shrouded in mystery. Some even speculated at the time if they were using NFT hype to keep interest in GameStop stock. But based on this posting it looks like the video game retailer is serious.
- One of the main arguments for shorting GameStop to death was the company’s lack of long-term vision. After all, brick and mortar stores are not the future because everything is going online. Especially with everyone even more comfortable buying online now. But, looks like the video game retailer is finally developing a plan that not even the most zealous shorter could justify critiquing.
- It’s quite fitting that a company like GameStop is turning to blockchain after traditional finance tried to destroy the company. It’s quite bullish for the cryptospace too, because GameStop has the mainstream name recognition that crypto products don’t have.
