The findings highlight the remarkable progress of the Lightning Network since its inception in 2018.
The analysis indicates that in 2024, a greater number of businesses are integrating Lightning than in any previous year, highlighting the creation of larger channels on the network and the increase in active Lightning nodes.
Some notable statistics from the report include:
- The overall Lightning capacity measured in U.S. dollars has surged by 2,767% since 2020.
- The bitcoin capacity has seen an increase of 384% during the same timeframe.
- Nearly all Lightning transactions below 1,000,000 sats are processed in under 1.1 seconds.

- The prevalent HODL mindset remains a barrier to the widespread adoption of Lightning. If Bitcoin enthusiasts hoard their cryptocurrency instead of spending it, the growth of Lightning may stall, undermining Bitcoins overall value proposition.
