What are NFT games?
‘AXIE’, I GOT 3 EGGS’, ‘PUMPPPP IT’. Just a snippet of what we have been hearing in the past few weeks. Surely, all of you who have been active in this space must have heard these phrases as well.
What are NFT games? Why have they been performing so well lately? We did some digging ourselves to get the answers to these questions.
The Basics
We know NFT stands for Non Fungible Token, a real world object represented digitally. Now, games mostly are a simulation of the real world. Naturally, items or characters from a game can hold certain value in the NFT world considering it’s a digital representation of objects. You already know where this is going.
People sell the items/characters from these games to earn money. The developers of these games preserve certain items as rare and unique in these games which in turn are being sold by the players as NFTs. This is why some blockchain assets are considered more expensive than others. These games are essentially called ‘play to earn’ games.
Let’s take a look at a few of them.
AXIE
Remember the summer of 2016, when it was so peaceful? Probably because everyone was playing Pokemon Go?
Well, Axie Infinity borrows from this game. You have your own virtual kingdoms, collect your digital pets called Axies and battle them out. Each axie is unique and they can also be bred with their offspring receiving their strengths and weaknesses.
To play the game, you will have to purchase a minimum of 3 Axies. Axie is also planning to launch it’s staking service. The $SLP token is a native ERC-20 token, rewarded to the players for each quest. These $SLP tokens are spent for an attempt to breed an axie. All in all, Axie is an exciting game. We can’t wait to see what it turns out to be.
SandBox
Heard of the word metaverse? It’s a virtual world, a world generated by the computer and perhaps other users. Sandbox is a voxel-based metaverse game. Voxel is a unit used to define a point in 3d, which as opposed to a lot of games is 2d.
Sandbox is a game where players can build and trade virtual assets. The exciting thing about SAND is that you can create your own objects and sell them on the marketplaces. You can also create and customize your own games. Does it get any better than that?
You can also buy and sell LAND as NFT tokens. This asset holds a high value inside the game. SAND sold approximately $8m LAND in April. If you’re still confused as to how to relate to it, think of it as Minecraft or Roblox of the blockchain world. Play the game and let us know what you think about it.
ALIEN WORLDS
Alien Worlds again is a metaverse. The game is about exploring other planets. It’s more of a competition economically, where you can rent commission by owning land. This is achieved by incentivizing players to compete for Trilium (TLM), which is required to control competing decentralised autonomous organisations (Planet DAOs) and to gain access to additional gameplay.
Players may engage in governance by electing the Councillors of the six Planet DAOs, and thereby influence the direction of the game. Seventh planet was just discovered in Alien Worlds. Wonder where the game goes from here. Players engage in battles and complete in-game quests. You need to acquire NFTs to mine TLM.
These were just the top talked about NFT games in the space at the moment. If you are playing a game that is more exciting, feel free to share with us.
Keep playing. Keep earning.
